Solutions Engineer
Solutions Engineer 1 (Hillsboro)
ViaWest, Inc., a super-regional provider of colocation and managed hosting solutions, has an opportunity for an entry level Solutions Engineer. This position is responsible for monitoring and maintenance of the building management systems and responding to alarms as required. Provides daily (24 / 7 / 365) support via phone and e-mail on a variety of issues, troubleshoots and diagnoses problems, and performs maintenance on a variety of equipment and systems.
Requirements:
- Experience as a Network Operations Center Technician or equivalent.
- Working understanding of AC and DC power
- Two years experience with building management systems, UPS, generators, HVACs, PDUs, chillers and cooling towers.
- Experience maintaining computers and laptops.
§ Experience with data communications and telephony including, but not limited to POTS, IDSN, Private Line (DS0 to OC48), Frame Relay, ATM.
- Familiarity with cable color coding (tip/ring), and at a minimum 568A and B pin-outs.
- Strong troubleshooting skills required
- Strong communication skills (oral and written)
- Good documentation skills required.
- Must be computer proficient using Microsoft Office software, and other software products in use at Viawest.
- Self-motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision
- Good decision making abilities a must
- Flexibility to support 24 / 7 operations
